During the first session of our “Great Reads for Girls” book club, a handful of young ladies, two fun helpers, and I have enjoyed making crafts, discussing Nancy Rue’s recently released book, “Here’s Lily,” and talking about true beauty. Where does it come from? What does it look like?
To finish your back-to-school look, here are five beauty facts from the Bible:
1. I am beautiful because God made me:
Genesis 1:31-“God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!”
2. While people may judge my looks, God looks at my heart:
1 Samuel 16:7-“The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
3. My heart is more important than my hair:
1 Peter 3:3-4–“Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. 4 You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”
4. Honoring God makes my beauty visible:
Proverbs 31:30-“Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”
5. I can train my mind to see true beauty:
Philippians 4:8-“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
